C-Section Time! - June 2nd 2014

 Seth Reed Miller

I can't believe that you are finally here! We went in this morning at 7:30AM for the scheduled c-section to begin at 9:30AM. Before we got started Hama, Uncle Patrick, Katie, Danny and Nanie were there before the surgery started and Nana, Grandpa Mike, Garrett, Darryl and Ashley showed up while we were in there.

The surgery itself was terrifying. The doctors made me go in by myself at first to get the spinal block started, and once they were ready to start cutting they let daddy in. Once Daddy came in he held my hand and we just patiently waited for you. With your brothers c-section we were only in there for about 20-30 minutes the entire time before they wheeled it back to the room. This time all we heard were the doctors saying that there were complications and that it wasn't as easy as most c-sections. They said I had a lot of scar tissue from my first c-section and so they had a hard time getting to you. Once we finally got you out from in there daddy and I were so relieved! Before we got you all cleaned up and weighed, they put you on my chest for skin to skin. You were so heavy! The medicine they had given me made my chest feel like it was going to collapse at any minute and when they had put you on there it felt like it was definitely going to. But I wanted nothing more than to hold you! You were so beautiful.

You kept looking at me and your daddy as he held you in place on my chest, after about 10-15 minutes I asked for your weight to be done and the nurse came and grabbed you took all your testing. You were 8 pounds 8 ounces 20 inches long. After they took your weight they gave you to your daddy because the doctor had another complication, they broke a needle inside my abdomen, so they had to rush radiation down to the Operating Room and they asked you and your daddy to leave. That’s when I really started getting scared, because here I was getting scared about all the complications that I'd been having, and I was by myself, and had no idea what exactly was going on.

Finally after 45 minutes I was able to go back into the recovery room and I was able to hold you again. I felt so whole again since I was able to have you, your daddy and your brother in the same room. We had the breast feeding specialist come in and start to try to get you to latch but of course so far you wouldn't, so they got you to eat from a spoon from what we were able to hand express out. I was so excited when we were finally able to go into our room and see our friends and family.
